Industrial Engine & Component Overhaul

Celtic Power employs skilled craftsmen who have extensive experience overhauling large industrial natural gas and diesel engines. We have worked on engines in all environments from engine rooms in marine vessels to stationary electrical generators in freezing cold and tropical heat. We prefer to have smaller engines transported to our shop when extensive work is required but can also provide onsite service, maintenance and repair for larger generating power plants and heavy machinery. Our specialty is slow and medium speed engines, though we provide full service for all industrial engines. We also have a wide knowledge of European engines gained from our work before emigrating to Canada.

At our work shops we have all of the equipment required to tackle the heavier engines and components. We maintain our own site crane capable of lifting 75,000 Lbs. Above and beyond that we have hydraulic jacking systems capable of lifting 440,000 Lbs. We keep lifting slings and chains rated far in excess of what our machinery can lift. When dealing with larger engine components such as cylinder heads and cylinder frames most are mounted on rolling systems to make them mobile in our shop. p.

A large portion of the engine work completed in our shop is reconditioning older medium and slow speed generating engines that are suited to long term base- load generating. We have found a steady demand for this type of generator at around the 1000Kw power level. We have supplied this type of generator to many industries where large electrical starting loads are required or waste heat can be scavenged making in- house power generation a very economical option. We have supplied generating plants for everything from power plastic injection molders to greenhouses. Sometimes reconditioned machines suit applications much better than current new machinery at a much lower cost. We also consult with clients to get the most out of their generators, whether scavenging waste heat to heat greenhouses or using the correct type of engine to start larger motors under load without causing frequency fluctuations. We make sure that our clients receive a machine well suited to their application.

We do most of the engine component machining “in house” using a wide variety of machine tools to deal with various size engine components. We provide component inspection services with comprehensive reports. We also have the tools and equipment to complete magnaflux wet and dry crack inspection and have a large variety of measuring tools to provide complete inspection and condition reports from complete engines to the smallest components.
